Crocs are made to get wet, and they dry fast if you let air do the work. The only way to ruin them while drying is heat.
In this guide
Fast, safe drying
- 1. Shake out water and tip them so it drains from the vents.
- 2. Towel dry the footbed and outside.
- 3. Airflow: stand them upside down or on their side near a fan.
- 4. Shade: keep them out of strong direct sun.
- 5. Wait: regular Crocs are usually wearable quickly once surface water is gone.

Lined (fuzzy) Crocs
The lining holds water, so they take much longer. Press, don’t wring, the fuzz with a dry towel, swap towels as they get damp, then leave them in a ventilated room. Stuffing them loosely with paper towel helps absorb moisture. Replace it every few hours. Make sure the lining is fully dry before wearing, or it can start to smell.
What never to do
| Don’t | Why |
|---|---|
| Tumble dryer | Heat shrinks and warps the foam |
| Radiator, heater, hairdryer | Same heat risk |
| Hot car or dashboard | Can shrink them quickly (what to do) |
| Strong sun for hours | Heat build-up and fading |
After the beach or pool
Rinse with fresh water first to remove salt, chlorine and sand, then dry as above. More: Crocs at the beach.
